Meet the Member: Scott and Sandra Douglas

by Jennifer Velasquez

Born out of the 2017 Women's March on Washington, Woke and Bespoke’s mission is to offer you creative ways to express your (woke) self. Today we’re chatting with founders Sandra and Scott to learn how they got started and get a closer look at their process.

NYHC: Tell us about what you make

Scott and Sandra Douglas: For years, we have collaborated creatively purely as a hobby. Whether it was themed birthday, dinner parties, a school project for our kid or simply to amuse ourselves...everything was always a made to order experience! When the time came for the Women’s March on Washington, as usual I came up with my concept and asked Scott to help make it happen. Courtesy of his new 3D printer, he created my vision in powerful depth & finished it with hand painted color. It truly wowed me! This inspired us to keep creating. Fast forward, here we are with a variety of button/pin offerings and even a pair of earrings!

NYHC: Where do you live?

S&SD: Long Island although we’re originally from Brooklyn/Queens.

NYHC: What is unique or different about your process and/or designs?

S&SD: Our process is a fusion of science and artistry. Technology plays a starring role in the execution of our pieces. The integrity is in the details which are developed with human imagination and my 25+ year experience in 3D graphics.

NYHC: Do you have any favorite pieces? What makes them special to you?

S&SD: I really like my "Angry Pumpkin" pieces (soap dish/earrings/keyring). The digital model I created came out so nice and clean and it prints so well that I just love to admire it.

NYHC: What is your favorite tool or supply?

S&SD: This is going to sound odd but my favorite tool is my scraper!  It allows me to easily remove prints from the bed surface of the printer without damaging the piece.

NYHC: Is there a new piece/opportunity/change that you're excited about?

S&SD: My most recent printer purchase which is a Creality Ender 3.  It's just a great machine!

NYHC: Share an important lesson you've learned from running your business.

S&SD: Always have enough shipping supplies on hand.  It's never too early to order more!
