Get your shopping totes ready for the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade!

After bursting onto the scene last year with the inaugural event, the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade is back with even more handmade shopping for all. This year, we've moved out of the Knitting Factory and into Openhouse Gallery, a gorgeous, modern space in NoLita that will highlight our most talented local makers and their lovely wares.

Due to your suggestions, we've also extended our shopping hours this year. We will be open from 11am until 8pm, letting you shop early or late during the busy holiday season.

But you'll want to come early if you've RSVPed for a free goody bag because those puppies got snatched up within the first 24 hours of online registration! The limited-edition silk-screened totes, (filled with fun stuff), will be on hold for confirmed registrants until 2pm. After that, it will be released for sale to the public. Next week when all the goodies have been sorted through, we'll let you know some of the stuff that's in it!

So mark your calendars and visit our vendors page to make your shopping list. Remember many of them welcome custom orders, so if you act now, they can have your unique, handmade gifts ready to pick up by the big day!

Sonora Who? - Don't Forget Your Dads

Germany's Father's Day falls on Ascension Day. So a few weeks ago I received a phone call from my dear dad who said: "Hello, today is Father's Day!" Much mumbling on my end of the phone that eventually ended in: "Happy Father's Day." So in order for you not to find yourself in a similar situation, here are some unique gifts for the fathers in your family:

How about a set of coasters depicting Rockaway's architectural landmarks from Bungaloe?

I've been eyeing these cufflinks for months now. Coney Island's Parachute Jump affixed to nickels made by Wabisabi Brooklyn. My husband's aunt actually jumped off that thing in her heyday.

For the athlete in your family, a tissue cozy from muppetloon. What, you don't already own one! Where do you keep your tissues? Wrapped in some plastic?

And finally a special something for the Lewis Black fan - found at E.Binard.

Also, don't forget to check out Karen's Monsters for t-shirts and cute monsters, Jes Switaj for ties, Ikyoto for more cool t-shirts, and yummy soaps from Nordea's Soaperie and Dirty Loves Clean.

By the way, Sonora Smart Dodd was the first to solicit support for a day honoring fathers in 1910.

Images of Nature in Art and Craft

Ever since French cavemen were moved to represent a hunt on the walls of their abode, nature has been an inspiration to artists and artisans alike.

A careful look through some of my favorite {NewNew} shops on Etsy turned up more than a few examples of the enormous variety in how that inspiration can be transformed into reality.

Whether it's ikyoto's adorable take on a natural process, Citybitz's reflection of the beauty of nature in an urban setting, or Blue Stitch Books' delectable artichoke print, the {NewNew} is a veritable garden of earthly delights.

Left to right, starting from the top:

Salt and Paper's rose tree ring, Art by Iris' painting, Yours Truly xoxo's Dear Alanna table lamp, ikyoto's Evaporation T-shirt; Brighton Vase with Flowers by May Luk Ceramics, applique flower placemats by Cakehouse, Spring Blossom Wedding Invitations by Fubabee, Pink Peacock Monster Zippered Pouch by Karen's Monsters; Artichoke flat notecard by Blue Stitch Books, Brooklyn Compact by Citybitz, Yellow Iris Eye Pillow by Love Forever, Flora and Fauna necklace by Adornments NYC; Burrowing Owl Box Set by Molly Shoelace, Hand Etched sterling silver wing pendant by Lingua Nigra, Mixed Metal Etched Butterfly Necklace by Joanne Tracy Designs, and Floral Bird Mothers Day Card by Waisze Designs.

Brooklyn Handmade Boutique Closing!

Do you ever dream of a handmade shop? Say a handmade shop that sold all things from Etsy? A shop that you could hold Etsy items you've been coveting, in your own two hands? Well this place ACTUALLY existed!

But alas, it will be no more. This Sunday 4pm - 8pm, Fact and Fancy (75B Hoyt St. Brooklyn, NY 11201), run by the amazingly talented Daniellexo, is having its closing party. I've heard rumors of door prizes and HOT TODDIES, ladies and gentlemen. So your name on the guest list is a MUST!!

I hope to see some of you there! Please give a holler if you plan to come and we can coordinate times so we can all meet! WOO HOO!
